ADOPTION OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE FOR ENHANCING EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENT AND RESULTS MANAGEMENT IN NIGERIA: OPPORTUNITIES, CHALLENGES, AND POLICY DIRECTIONS

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming education globally, providing tools for automated assessment, personalized learning, and efficient academic results management. In Nigeria, the adoption of AI in educational assessment and results management holds promise for improving transparency, accuracy, timely feedback, and. decision‑making efficiency. However, challenges such as limited digital infrastructure, inadequate technical capacity, funding constraints, and ethical concerns hinder effective adoption. This paper explores the concepts of AI, Educational Assessment and Result management. It also examines the opportunities AI offers in automating and optimizing assessment and results management, identifies key implementation challenges, and proposes policy directions for successful integration. Recommendations include investment in ICT infrastructure, capacity building for educators, development of ethical and data privacy frameworks, and promotion of locally relevant AI innovations. Implementing these strategies can position Nigeria’s education system to leverage AI for improved learning outcomes and administrative efficiency.
