This study examined the role of statistics in institutional development in Cross River State, Nigeria. Using a descriptive survey design, data were collected from 250 staff members across 15 public institutions including ministries, parastatals, and agencies in the state. A structured questionnaire with reliability coefficient of 0.84 was employed for data collection. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and chi-square statistics. Findings revealed that statistical data significantly influences policy formulation (mean = 3.68), enhances decisionmaking processes (mean = 3.72), and improves resource allocation (mean = 3.65) in public institutions. The study found significant relationships between statistical capacity and institutional performance (χ² = 45.32, p < 0.05), statistical literacy and evidence-based planning (χ² = 52.18, p < 0.05), and data management systems and institutional efficiency (χ² = 38.76, p < 0.05). Major challenges identified include inadequate statistical infrastructure, limited staff capacity in data analytics, and poor funding for statistical units. The study recommended strengthening statistical departments, investing in modern data management systems, and developing comprehensive training programs for staff on statistical applications in institutional planning and development as ways of leveraging statistical applications in institutional development.
